The ladies in my life ...

Things were busy this week but I don't have a lot of photos to share before Friday and an event at school called "Mommies and Muffins". Everyone's moms came in, and we did a little song (my performance was much like my holiday program performance ... very subtle and understated) then had a snack. I even got to leave early!

Yeah, Mommy! (I hope you liked your muffin.)

And the best part of the day was the arrival of Grandma Kathy! She came up for the weekend and even got some mail at our house from Uncle Eric.

Saturday was a really fun day. Mom had a lot of stuff going on and Dad was stranded at an unnamed airport in the southeastern part of the United States so Grandma and I worked outside and had a good time! Let's get these plants in the ground!

With the hole dug we can show this plant to its room. Good teamwork, Grandma Kathy!

I spent lots of time inspecting Grandma Kathy's van this weekend. She and Papa have a car seat now so I may start taking rides in this fun vehicle. "Buttons, buttons everywhere. Buttons near and far, Grandma Kathy can sit and watch as I touch everything in the car!"

Next up? Mother's Day brunch at Hyperion. A nice spread and lots of husbands and kids on their best behavior to try and give mom a break. Oh wait, they have chocolate milk?! Yeah!

After everyone finished we headed outside to get a nice Mother's Day photo. Dad was feeling the heat but I just couldn't find my motivation. (Hmmm ... I wonder if that "swim down" trick I saw on Nemo works for getting out of photos?)

It does!

Uh oh, they found me. I promise, just let me sit on the golf cart and I'll smile. (Maybe not at the camera, but you didn't include that in your original request, Dad.)

Okay, one last attempt. Nope! I'm commandeering this here golf cart and really can't be bothered now. If everyone could just leave me alone I'd like to get a few holes in before the course fills up.

After a wonderful meal and all that photography I was pooped. In fact, I fell asleep on the way home! Grandma Kathy left so Mom, Dad and I all rested. I woke up with a long list of things to do.

Tote that barge. Lift that bale. Water those plants.

Homeownership ... will the work ever end?!

With the yard work done Mom and I were able to relax a bit. I learned something about her today ... she can draw a darn good sidewalk chalk flower!

To sum up, I've got pretty great ladies in my life. I'm a lucky fellow.

I love you Mom, Grandma Kathy, Grandma Maggy and Great-Grandma Margaret! Happy Mother's Day!

Constructing a week ...

Hello, everyone.

Thanks for stopping by. I have lots to share this week and I know you won't be disappointed.

Early in the week I got to go with Dad to Mom's dentist appointment. It was cool to see all the things in a dentist's office and, come to find out, I may get to sit in the chair later this month! That will be an interesting experience.

The Iowa Energy work with Flynn Wright and locked up the NBA D-League Championship this week! The big game was Wednesday night and I went for the first half. (They ended up losing but winning the series on Friday night so everyone was really happy.)

Thursday after school I needed to get some work done in the yard so I came home and dug right in. Dad helped me while Mom shopped for the party she was throwing with Grant White's mom the next morning.

Dad and I had a boys' morning on Friday because Mom was out of the house by 3 a.m. (Crazy) Dad did something cool and took a different route to school so I could see the garbage trucks. Mom did something cool later that day when she picked me up and had some new construction equipment for me to play with! Yeah, Mom!

It was a good thing I got some practice in because the next morning we went to an event called "Touch A Truck". Wholly Cow!!!! All the construction equipment and trucks a guy could ask for and I got to climb right in and make myself at home.

The first stop was the loader tractor. It was a Massey Ferguson but I didn't mind.

Next was the uniloader ...

... the compact or mini excavator...

... the backhoe ...

... and an ambulance! (In between I made a stop at a dump truck, a sprint car, a bus, a police car, and concrete pump. AWESOME!!!!

Next up? A short nap then a trip to the Fletchers. Here I am making May baskets with my buddy Grant.

After dinner we shot hoops ...

... and hung out. (What?! We're not doing anything? These aren't our guilty faces.)

Today was a great day at church. The Killinger Big Band played! You can't go wrong with a service featuring Hoagey Carmichael and Irving Berlin. Toe tappin excellence!

I was into it!

Whew! What a service. Okay, let's hit the road and go visit Grandma Margaret and Papa Jack! Feeling sleeeeeppppppyyyyyy...

... but a stop at A&W will wake me up! Yeah!

I had a great visit. Singing songs and talking to Grandma Margaret. Discussing tractors and planes with Papa Jack. He even helped me work on my handshake. A firm handshake and eye contact will take a guy far. Good advice, I'll remember that.

Dad and I took a nice walk around the farm and I had lots of questions. This is a barn where the cows used to sleep before they were milked. Dad had tons to share but I wanted to keep moving. (He kept just standing around and getting all sentimental and stuff.)
At the end of our walk we reached my destination. (I like Papa Jack's 4020 a lot more than I liked that Massey Ferguson.)

After we got back from Chariton Dad mowed the yard while Mom and I delivered May baskets.

With all the coverage of William and Kate I had Mom help me rehearse my parade wave this afternoon. You know, just in case. (A couple of the flower girls Friday morning were really cute!)

Until next time!

Gifts Galore!

What a week! Not only was it Easter but it was Dad's birthday. The goodness started early with a package from Uncle Eric. Hmmm ... I wonder what's in here? Wait ... a truck and candy?

There's a bunny on this plate! Thanks Grandma Kathy & Papa ... it was quite a week of gifts leading up to Easter.
Friday was a fun overnight at Grandma Maggy's. Look what I can do on my scooter!

In addition to scooting we also worked on the Miller family's traditional lamb cake. I helped color the coconut grass and place the jelly beans. I'm most helpful in the kitchen! Okay ... now for the real meat of this post. Remember this photo from a year ago? Easter Bunny = BAD!!!!!!

Well, we got it turned around this year. Easter Bunny = GOOD!!!

Mom, Dad and I hit the Hyperion Easter Egg hunt this year and things went swimmingly.

After I got my eggs everyone was very happy.

Grant White and I both gave the Easter Bunny high fives ...

... then hit the "kid centered" buffet. Donut. Chicken strip with Ketchup (Catsup?). A tot. A small quantity of cheesy eggs. Two grapes. Chocolate milk. Yep!!

My new best friend.

Thanks bro ... much love.

After that excitement I took a nap! Later in the day we boiled the eggs to prepare them for coloring. They say a watched pot never boils but that isn't true. You just have to watch it for a long, long, long, long, long, long, long time.

Oh, and we got my cowboy boots out! Thanks to Allens Boots in Austin I'm stylin!

Fast forward to the next morning and it's not only Easter Sunday but it's Dad's birthday. Shazam! My best bud the Easter Bunny stopped over when I was asleep.

He has great taste! Awesome!

Once I'd gone through my Easter basket and downed some candy on the down low I helped Dad blow out the candle on his birthday cheesy potatoes ...

... and open his gifts.

Next came church ...

... then some outdoor Easter photos. Boys with boots.

Me with the bestest momma EVER!

No nap, please. Sugar? YES! Grumpy? YEP!

Okay, let's redirect. Shoots and Ladders? A classic that I'm just starting to understand. The subtleties take a lifetime to master.

Next up? Coloring eggs. Thanks to Aunt Sherry we got a special Tie Die kit this year. Frankly, the only thing that got tied or died were fingers and a couple of spots on my shirt. However, we excelled at single color eggs. Mom didn't think it was funny though when she asked me what color I wanted the next egg to be and I said, "White!". Not a funny joke at that particular time but as Dad said, I'm still honing my comedic timing. Anyway, it was a good family experience and everyone kept their wits about them.

Yeah, me!

Success!

Next we headed to Grandma Maggy's for a special meal and more celebrating. I feel asleep in the car and ended up crashing on Grandma's magic bed for an hour or so but nobody seemed to mind. In fact, they went ahead and ate without me! (I can't imagine what would have been fun or relaxing about a meal if I wasn't part of it but you can't account for taste.)

As I wrote earlier, the lamb cake is a Miller family tradition. I helped Grandma make the grass and place the jelly beans Friday night then found just the right place for the candle.

Another egg hunt? Yes, yes please!

Stickers! Thanks Grandma Maggy ...

What a great few days. I really like candy and Easter is a super reason for folks to load me up. Note for next year, put the Easter Bunny on my birthday invite list!

Have a great week, everyone!
